Canadian Tire Bank is taking part in an industry-wide initiative to make credit and debit card transactions even more secure. Cards with embedded chip technology will be introduced across Canada over the next few years, starting with Kitchener-Waterloo in 2008.
Chip technology is already in wide use around the world and is proven to help reduce fraud by making it more difficult to duplicate the card or make purchases without authorization.
Here’s how you use a chip card:
- At retailers with chip terminals
Your card is inserted into the chip terminal until the transaction is complete. Simply enter your Personal Identification Number (PIN) when prompted.
- At retailers without chip-terminals
Your chip card is swiped and you sign a receipt as you normally would.
- Over the phone or online
Provide your card information the way you always have when you’re ready to make a purchase.
